Il Bambù: una scelta di "Ecologia Strutturale"

Lo scopo della presente nota è di individuare sulla base degli studi più recenti le proprietà meccaniche del bambù al fine di inserirlo, come merita, nel contesto dei materiali strutturali. In varie parti del mondo esso ha già tale ruolo, tanto che alcune normative lo recepiscono ufficialmente. In Europa, a parte studi pionieristici, non ha una larga diffusione anche per l’assenza come materiale a crescita spontanea, benché negli ultimi tempi vi sia un crescente interesse. E’ nostro parere che occorre fissare le idee in merito alle caratteristiche meccaniche del bambù, per consentire ai tecnici un razionale e sicuro utilizzo come materiale da costruzione. Lo studio si basa sulle ultime ricerche effettuate in particolare in Sud America dove è già codificato a livello strutturale.
Abstract
The present work investigates the results of an extensive research program about the mechanical properties of bamboo. In the last years there has been a growing interest in bamboo as structural material. It is commonly used for construction of buildings in South America and Asia. In Europe its use is still limited for constructive purposes. This is due to its absence as an autochthon specie; but there is a growing interest in the technical community. In this work we will present the results of the most recent researches and a report of the mechanical properties that will help the designer to well understand the limitations of bamboo and show its proper way of use. Most of this research is based on studies conducted in South America; there the bamboo has already been included in the structural code as material suitable for construction.
