Constitutive Modeling for Failure Properties Analysis of Concrete with Recycled Aggregates

The New Boundaries of Structural Concrete Session A – Performance and life-cycle costs of new concrete structures

Memoria tratta da "The New Boundaries of Structural Concrete: Session A – Performance and life-cycle costs of new concrete structures", ACI IC - Bergamo 2013

In this work, a non-local gradient and fracture energy-based elasto-plastic constitutive model formulated on the basis of a thermodynamic framework is extended to account for the presence of Recycled Aggregates (RAs) in RA-Concrete (RAC) materials. The material theory considers a local hardening law with a variable ductility depending on the acting confining pressure and a non-local softening law which incorporates two characteristic lengths related to fracture energy and gradient plasticity concepts. The influence of the RAs in the constitutive theory is considered through a reformulation of the maximum strength criterion and the hardening/softening laws. The main objective of this work is to evaluate the capability of the proposed model to capture the mechanical behavior of RACs when different RA contents are considered. The predicting capacity of the model is assessed through an experimental validation.
