Earthquake protection of movable and semi-movable cultural assets in their exposition sites - N13

This paper describes the new technologies aiming at significantly reduce the seismic vulnerability of high vulnerable statues, relevant fine and decorative art, ethnographic objects, scientific and technological instruments, musical instruments, archaeological artifacts, in their exposition configuration in museums or archaeological sites. Recent passive and/or semi-passive basements for protection of statues, techs and showcases against the natural and artificial loads like earthquake, shocks and vibrations have developed: e.g. the use of marble for seismic isolation of the two statues known as “Bronzes of Riace” at the Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria, Italy and the use of granite, marble and steel/ceramics devices for techs and showcases. The methodologies aiming at significantly reduce the vulnerability of the cultural heritage assets in their exposition sites are combined together with the sensitivity, compatibility and applicability of the mature technologies, also respecting the authenticity of the artifact evaluation and design of the interventions.
