Calcium hydroxide may be today time produced in form of small nanoparticles and, because of the small particles dimension and high specific surface, nanoC-H is expected to efficiently react with nanosilica fume (nanoSF) to form significant amount of calcium silicate-hydrate (C-S-H). If so, this would candidate SF and nanoC-H as ingredients for a new kind of cementing materials, lowering both energy consumption and CO2 emission currently accounted in ordinary Portland cement and commercial lime productions. However, nanolime particles dispersion still represents an hindrance, and much deeper studies are needed to better characterize C-S-H obtained by nanoC-H and SF reaction. X-ray diffraction measurements have been carried out in this study to investigate the interaction of nanolime with SF in comparison with that of commercial lime.
